SDS Protests War in Afghanistan at USF Campus

Sunday was the 11th anniversary of the U.S. invasion of Afghanistan.  Some USF students are using the anniversary to demonstrate against the war.

The war in Afghanistan has become the longest war in U.S. history.  Tampa Bay Students for a Democratic Society are saying it's time to bring the troops home.

Only about eight people showed up to demonstrate on the Tampa Campus of USF.  In fact, there were more signs than protesters.  Group leader Matt Hastings says he knows there are limits to what such a protest may accomplish.

"We know we are not going to end the war by having a rally.  But by having an alliance of students across the country, and state who do have these rallies on campus, it keeps the issue alive," Hastings says.

Since the start of the conflict, more than 2,000 U.S. soldiers have died in Afghanistan.
