Q&A With Chemical Weapons Expert Speaking on Syria Tonight at USF

International inspectors today visited three sites linked to Syria's chemical weapons program. The inspectors are to visit more than 20 sites around the country as part of a mission to destroy the country's stockpile.

But how can this be done while a civil war rages around them?

Gary Samore is the Executive Director for Research at the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.  Prior to that, he served for four years as President Obama’s White House Coordinator for Arms Control and Weapons of Mass Destruction.

He'll speak at 6:30 p.m. tonight at the Patel Center for Global Solutions on USF’s Tampa campus. It is free and open to the public. The conversation will be moderated by USF Professor Mohsen Milani, executive director of USF World’s Center for Strategic and Diplomatic Studies.

Samore speaks with WUSF's Steve Newborn about whether he thinks the mission has a chance of succeeding.

Steve Newborn is a WUSF reporter and producer at WUSF covering environmental issues and politics in the Tampa Bay area.
