Former President Bill Clinton was in Florida Sunday to campaign on behalf of Charlie Crist, a former Republican and former governor who is now the Democratic gubernatorial candidate.
"Charlie Crist will get the show on the road from Florida," Clinton told a crowd of about 1,000 Crist supporters at Cyrus Greene Park in East Tampa. "And he will grow the economy from the middle out ... he believes we ought to do this together."

Clinton made stops earlier in the day with the Crist campaign in Tallahassee and South Florida. In Tampa, several Democrats stumped for Crist, including U.S. Rep. Kathy Castor, U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson and Clinton.
“I want you to know how strongly my family feels about this race,” Clinton said. “This is Hillary's birthday and I had to get an excused absence to come down here."
The former president urged people to get out and vote early.
“You cannot afford to squander an opportunity to make this new beginning. You went six years trying to get over the terrible economic crash we had, and now we can roll. We had better roll together,” Clinton said. “That means you gotta vote. This is all up to who votes."
Crist's opponent, current governor Rick Scott, is also enlisting high-profile party members in his campaign.
Among them is New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, whose already done several events with Scott. On Tuesday, Lousiana Gov. Bobby Jindal is scheduled to stump for Scott in Sarasota.
A recent Quinnipiac University poll of likely voters taken two weeks ago show 42 percent prefer Scott, and and 42 percent prefer Crist.
