Bill and Hillary Clinton spent their 41st wedding anniversary in Florida -- but not together.
While Hillary campaigned in Miami on Tuesday, the former president stumped for his wife in Safety Harbor.
Clinton, who talked about student debt and climate change, said he was proud of his wife's performance at Sunday's second presidential debate.
"And how calm she was and how focused she was on the issues and how she didn't take the debate bait,” he said. “She never forgot that she was running to serve you, not to get in a mud fight. Even her opponent finally said something I agreed with. When they said ‘what do you admire about her’-- he said I'll tell you one thing-she fights, she can't quit."
At the debate, GOP candidate Donald Trump brought with him several women who have accused former president Clinton of sexual abuse. At least two protesters at Mr. Clinton's event last night had a poster repeating the allegations.
Christopher Cosenza of Pinellas Park attended the event. He says he thinks those comments will backfire on Trump.
"It’s actually going to end up helping Hillary,” he said. “I think that when that whole situation happened in the 1990s, she actually got a lot of empathy from people and she got a huge approval rating and that probably led to her seats in New York when she ran for the Senate. So I think that him just doing this now, he's really just catering to his base."
Terrie Thomas of Safety Harbor was among the first in line for the event. She was able get into the city’s small community Center. Hundreds of others were turned away. After watching Sunday's debate, Thomas says she doesn't think Trump has the temperament to be President.
"He reminded me of an erratic toddler,” she said. “And what I want to see is more women come out, and the women that I’m finding don’t seem angry enough and its shocking to me as a woman, it’s embarrassing to me as a woman, that they’re not reacting more harshly to what he’s done."
Clinton's Tampa area stop comes just before a Trump campaign visit in Lakeland at 3 p.m. today.
