Treasure Island state representative Kathleen Peters is saying three terms is enough in Tallahassee. Peters announced she'll instead seek a seat on the Pinellas County commission seat held by outgoing Commissioner John Morroni.
Peters said she disagreed with House Speaker Richard Corcoran's push to take away funding for both tourism marketing and economic development - as well as eroding the ability of local governments to make their own laws. This is part of a shift of power to Tallahassee that she says is going to impact cities and counties.
"I served on local government before and I think that local government is a very good fit for me," she said. "And I think it's important that people in local government understand how that burden is going to be shifting, and they need to be prepared to act accordingly and effectively and efficiently to address that burden."
The former mayor of South Pasadena will run for the County Commission's District 6 seat, which includes Seminole, Pinellas Park, parts of St. Petersburg and south county beaches.
She spoke to our Florida Matters panel as part of a discussion on beach renourishment that will air Tuesday night.
