Florida House of Representatives website

A second Democratic candidate has opened a campaign account to run in a special election for the House seat vacated by former state Rep. Alex Miller, R-Sarasota.

Sarasota Democrat Ruta Jouniari filed the paperwork this week to seek the House District 72 seat, according to the state Division of Elections website.

Sarasota Democrat Margaret Good opened a campaign account last week.

The race also includes Longboat Key Republican James Buchanan and Sarasota Libertarian Alison Foxall.

Miller resigned effective Sept. 1, citing family and business obligations.

A special primary election is scheduled Dec. 5, while the special general election will be held Feb. 13.
