Primary Election For District 58's Special Election Held Tuesday

A Republican primary for Florida’s House of Representatives District 58 will be held Tuesday, Oct. 10. The candidates are Republicans Yvonne Fry and Lawrence McClure.

The two Hillsborough County natives are running conservative campaigns to fill the seat of former Representative Dan Raulerson, after he stepped down due to his painful back condition.

Raulerson has a case of spinal stenosis, which is the narrowing of the spaces within your spine, which can cause numbness and pain down the neck, back, and legs.

District 58 covers Plant City, Temple Terrace, Dover, Mango, Seffner, Thonotosassa, and parts of Tampa and East Lake-Orient Park.

Voting locations are determined by your address. To find yours, search for it on Hillsborough County’s voting website.

This primary election is taking place in preparation for the special general election on Dec. 19.

Registration for the Dec. 19 election ends Nov. 20.

Supervisor of Elections Craig Latimer announced that two polling places have changed for the primary.

Precinct 753 voters were originally assigned to vote at Plant City Recreation and Parks, but due to a "storm-related closure," their new polling place will be Bruton Memorial Library, 302 McClendon St.

Precinct 763 voters will be voting at Faith Temple Assembly of God, 4240 N. Frontage Rd.

The elections office said Monday that extremely long lines for Food for Florida benefits at the Plant City Stadium have made sites on Park Road inaccessible for voting.

There are approximately 800 eligible voters affected by these changes.

If voters believe they will be unable to get to their polling place on Oct. 10, they can go to any of the Supervisor of Elections Offices Monday, Oct. 9 until 5 p.m. or Tuesday, Oct. 10 from7 a.m. - 7 p.m. and have a ballot printed for them over the counter.

Florida law requires all Election Day voters to vote in their assigned polling places.

Voters in four other precincts were notified by mail of temporary polling place changes for this election prior to Monday, Oct. 10.

The list of all polling place changes is as follows:

  • Precinct 355 is voting at the Unitarian Universalist Church
  • Precinct 631 is voting in the Thonotosassa Branch Library
  • Precincts 657 and 662 are voting at St. Catherine's Episcopal Church
  • Precinct 753 is voting at Bruton Memorial Library
  • Precinct 763 is voting at Faith Temple Assembly of God

Voters should call (813) 744-5900 or visit VoteHillsborough.org and click on Election Day Voting if they are unsure of their precinct or polling place.
