Hillsborough County needs 3,600 workers at early voting sites and election day polling stations in 2020.
Supervisor of Elections Craig Latimer says the county has already lined up about 2,000 poll workers. Many of them were recruited by word of mouth.
"Poll workers find good poll workers. It's kind of like your neighbor, you know, ‘Hey, I'm doing this, you'd really like to do this,’” Latimer said.
He also is asking companies to let their employees take time off for election work. Grow Financial Credit Union is the first to sign up; 17 of its employees are taking part.
"We're trying to get businesses engaged with us," Latimer said. "This is no different than leadership classes and things like that, that businesses can get involved in"
Poll worker training for the 2020 presidential primary starts in February.
