Exploring The Little Manatee River By Kayak

My wife, Katie, and I like our sightseeing a little bit adventurous.

We think one of the best ways to explore a new place is in a kayak.

It's one of the first things we did when we moved to Tampa two years ago.

We paddled down the Hillsborough River into the bay and made a pass by Derek Jeter's house.

We took a kayak out to visit the ruined Eberhard Faber pencil factory on a juniper-filled island near Cedar Key.

The next morning , we watched from our kayak for 30 minutes as Roseate Spoonbills landed one by one for a morning bayou gaggle.

So we decided to explore the Little Manatee River for a Florida Matters show about seeing Tampa as a tourist.

We paddled a narrow, twisting pathway and found a great way to explore a less-developed section of Florida.

And we found spiders -- lots and lots of spiders.
