Florida Matters Re-Broadcast: Food As Muse

Sometimes when something is as universal, necessary and mundane as eating, it's hard to make "food" sound special. But not for the people on this Florida Matters.

WUSF has been talking to people who communicate their passion about food in particularly interesting ways. Food...as muse.

Our guests include:

  • Ileana Morales Valentine, a Tampa Bay Times cookbook reviewer. Check out her gift recommendations for cookbooks and cooking utensils, along with a recipe for peanut blondies with toasted sesame seeds and chocolate chunks.
  • Chef Mike Webb, owner of Tupelo Catering, Inc. and chef at Flanagan's Irish Pub in downtown Dunedin.
  • Elisa Albo, a poet and an English Professor at Broward College in Ft. Lauderdale. Read a copy of her poem as part of this episode's Florida Matters preview.
  • Krayl Funch, author of "An Appealing Plan: A Year of Everyday Celebrations," and a blog of the same name.
  • This episode also features an interview from American Public Media's The Splendid Table.
I cover health care for WUSF and the statewide journalism collaborative Health News Florida. I’m passionate about highlighting community efforts to improve the quality of care in our state and make it more accessible to all Floridians. I’m also committed to holding those in power accountable when they fail to prioritize the health needs of the people they serve.
Robin Sussingham was Senior Editor at WUSF until September 2020.
Bobbie O’Brien has been a Reporter/Producer at WUSF since 1991. She reports on general news topics in Florida and the Tampa Bay region.
As a reporter, my goal is to tell a story that moves you in some way. To me, the best way to do that begins with listening. Talking to people about their lives and the issues they care about is my favorite part of the job.
I love telling stories about my home state. And I hope they will help you in some way and maybe even lift your spirits.
