Mark Luther, director of the USF Center for Maritime and Port Studies, said the Sunshine Skyway collapse in 1980 led to innovations for bridge protection that were not present at the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore.

The collapse of Baltimore’s Francis Scott Key Bridge spurred recollections of the 1980 Sunshine Skyway disaster. Over 40 years later, search and rescue officials say the two incidents are "eerily similar."

According to a criminal complaint, Brandon Russell worked with a Maryland woman to disable the power grid by shooting out substations via “sniper attacks,” saying she wanted to “completely destroy this whole city.”

The complaint, filed Thursday, alleges the Trump administration is "waging a relentless campaign to sabotage and, ultimately, to nullify the law." They say that violates the Constitution.

"No one is above the law," Baltimore chief prosecutor Marilyn J. Mosby said as she announced the list of charges. Warrants have been issued for the officers' arrest.
