Cleveland Kidnapping

Corrections officials in Ohio say Castro is believed to have committed suicide in his cell Tuesday night. He was serving a life sentence for holding three women captive in his Cleveland home for more than 10 years.

One of three women kidnapped and repeatedly raped for a decade before their escape, told her abductor today that her years in hell are over, while his are just beginning.

After a British newspaper wrote that the man who helped rescue three young women from captivity is now having trouble getting by, he told other news outlets that such tales aren't true.

Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight appear separately in the three-minute, 30-second video in which they thank the community and talk about moving forward with their lives.

At a hearing this morning, Ariel Castro also asked to have contact with a child he fathered with one of the women he is accused of holding captive for years in his house. That request was denied.

Ariel Castro, whose Cleveland, Ohio, home allegedly became a prison for three kidnapped young women, has been indicted on 329 counts by a grand jury. The charges include aggravated murder, stemming from "the unlawful termination of another's pregnancy."

"The initial portrayal by the media has been one of a 'monster' and that's not the impression that I got when I talked to him for three hours," attorney Craig Weintraub tells Cleveland's WKYC-TV.

"I want him to suffer," Onil Castro tells CNN about his brother Ariel, who is accused of kidnapping three young women and holding them captive in his home for about a decade. Onil and Pedro Castro, another brother, say they knew nothing about what was allegedly happening inside their brother's home.

The three women who were rescued from years of captivity in a house in Cleveland released a statement on this Mother's Day to let their supporters know that they're glad to be home. They also asked for privacy and time to reconnect with their families.

Also: The local prosecutor reportedly may seek the death penalty against Ariel Castro, and also might file charges for every day of kidnapping and every act of sexual violence, among other offenses.
