The number of new cases reported Sunday in the greater Tampa Bay region was 538, much closer to totals seen in the past two weeks. A day earlier, the regional total was 957.

State health figures show coronavirus is on the rise since the governor moved Florida into the final phase of reopening on Sept. 25.

The state received the results from 58,779 coronavirus tests Monday, and 4.99% of them were positive.

There were 213 deaths attributed to the coronavirus statewide Thursday. It's the second day in a row the death toll has topped 200.

State health officials reported just under 1,900 people tested positive for COVID-19 since Sunday's report, out of over 39 thousand tests returned.

State health officials recorded the coronavirus-related deaths of 183 people Tuesday, bringing the statewide death toll to 10,717. The greater Tampa Bay region reported 63 deaths Tuesday.

Florida joins California as the only states to pass the milestone of 600,000 positive cases of COVID-19.

Few details were immediately available about the child's death. She is the eighth person under age 18 to die of COVID in Florida since March.
