Disney has filed a lawsuit claiming that the oversight government for Walt Disney World, which was taken over by appointees of Gov. Ron DeSantis earlier this year, has failed to release documents and properly preserve records in violation of Florida public records law.

Attorneys for Gov. Ron DeSantis are asking a federal judge to dismiss a free speech lawsuit filed by Disney after the Florida governor took over Walt Disney World’s governing district in retaliation for the company opposing the state’s so-called don’t say gay law.

Gov. Ron DeSantis’ appointees to Walt Disney World’s governing district have released a series of reports justifying their takeover of the government and accusing their Disney-controlled predecessors of being a part of “the most egregious exhibition of corporate cronyism in modern American history.”

Appointees of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis are seeking communications between Disney and local media, as well as documents related to the company’s position on Florida’s so-called “Don’t Say Gay” law.

Disney has released a study showing its economic impact in Florida at $40.3 billion, directly and indirectly through its supply chain and employee spending.

Since allies of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis took over Walt Disney World’s government earlier this year, morale has deteriorated, the governing district has been politicized and cronyism permeates the organization. That's according to many employees who have departed in recent months.

Disney claims its free speech rights were violated by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, and is fighting him in federal court. The entertainment giant warns that if the Republican leader wins, Disney won’t be the last entity to be punished over supporting a ''disfavored viewpoint."
