The Ukraine International Airlines Boeing 737-800 crashed shortly after takeoff on Wednesday. Iranian officials said the likely cause was mechanical problems.

Iran says the airstrikes were carried out by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard in retaliation for the U.S. assassination of Gen. Qassem Soleimani.

"This is a decision, frankly, that is 39 years overdue," Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said as he announced the U.S. is ending its Treaty of Amity with Iran.
