Tampa International Airport had a record number of passengers during Spring Break. Spokeswoman Emily Nipps said part of that growth is coming from new and expanded destinations from airlines that already serve the airport.
“Southwest now has flights to Havana, and those are really popular. Spirit goes to Boston and Baltimore, Delta also goes to Boston. So these are new domestic routes that we had this spring that we didn't have last spring. Frontier goes to Las Vegas,” Nipps said.
Nipps said Tampa International beat its record set in 2007 by 50,000 passengers in March and April combined with nearly 3.8 million passengers traveling through.
Nipps said Tampa International also expects to see record numbers for the entire year.
TPA is undergoing a $1 billion expansion. It’s planning additional construction next year to expand curbsides and add a hotel, gas station and more to the southern part of its property.
