Gas Prices Hit Four-Year High For Month Of September

It may feel like prices at the gas pump are higher than they've been in a while. Well, AAA on Monday reported gas prices hit a four-year high for the month of September.

Spokesman Mark Jenkins said that’s partly because of uncertainty in the global market over economic sanctions on Iran.

And he said momentum from the announcement that Mexico, Canada and the United States have drafted a new trade agreement may push prices even higher.

“That's increasing some optimism that the U-S and China would be able to possibly settle their ongoing trade war. So that's got oil prices trending a little bit higher, so basically what that means is that the recent increases at the pump may not be over,” Jenkins said.

The average gas price in the Tampa Bay Metro area is $2.79 a gallon, according to AAA, which provides daily national, state and metropolitan gas price updates.
