Hillsborough and Pinellas County governments this week continued their investment in the Cross-Bay Ferry between Tampa's downtown and St. Petersburg.
The Tampa City Council and the Hillsborough County Commission unanimously approved spending $150,000 each to bring back the winter and spring season ferry service, which has been operating with increasing success over the past few years.
Those were the final votes needed to support a third season for the alternative for people who usually drive across Bay area bridges. The St. Petersburg City Council and the Pinellas County Commission were already on board.
According to the Cross-Bay Ferry website, traffic has increased from 38,000 passengers in its first year to 53,000 passengers this past season.
The third season will start Nov. 1 and runs through April 30, 2020.
