Ground has been broken on the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center's new McKinley Drive Outpatient facility, which will serve patients with a variety of cancers, while also creating a number of jobs for the Tampa Bay area. This week's University Beat on WUSF Public Media has more on what the plan means for Moffitt, USF and the community.

Moffitt, which provides underwriting support for University Beat, will build a 200,000 square foot, eight story structure that features four ambulatory surgical suites and clinical space for Moffitt's breast and skin cancer programs.
The new McKinley Outpatient Facility will create 626 temporary construction jobs and 220 permanent jobs. It's slated to open in February 2015, at a projected cost of $74.2 million. Much of that funding comes from bonds backed by state taxes on sales of tobacco.
