USF Plans for Summer Commencement

Almost 2,800 students at the University of South Florida will wrap up the summer semester the best way possible Saturday - by graduating!

Over 1,600 of the students are expected to receive their diplomas during USF's 103rd Commencement Convocation. According to the university, a pair of ceremonies will be held at the USF Sun Dome on the Tampa campus.

9:00 a.m. ceremony will recognize graduates from: USF St. Petersburg: Bachelors and Masters, all colleges USF Tampa: Bachelors, Masters and Doctoral graduates from the following colleges: Arts and Sciences and Business 1:30 p.m. ceremony will recognize graduates from: USF Sarasota-Manatee: Bachelors and Masters, all colleges USF Tampa: Bachelors, Masters and Doctoral graduates from the following colleges: Behavioral and Community Sciences, Education, Engineering, Global Sustainability, Marine Sciences, Medicine, Nursing, Public Health, The Arts, and Undergraduate Studies.

According to latest figures, the school will confer 2,767 degrees across the USF System, including 2,446 to USF Tampa students (1,549 bachelors; 756 masters, 136 doctoral and 4 specialists). There will be 187 degrees awarded to USF St. Petersburg students and 103 to USF Sarasota-Manatee students (no breakdowns are available on those schools).

Four students in the USF System earned grade point averages of 4.0 and will be honored as King O'Neal Scholars. In addition, Denise Menendez, who's receiving her Bachelor of Arts in Economics and International Studies, has been named the Outstanding Graduate by the USF Alumni Association (you can see profiles of Menendez and four other graduates here, courtesy USF News).

Judy Genshaft will award the President's Fellow Medallion to TECO Energy President/CEO and former USF Board of Trustees chairman John Ramil. She'll also award Dr. Jorge Motta, the Secretary of Science, Technology and Innovation for Panama, the President's Global Leadership Award.
