The University of Florida is opening a food pantry for needy students and staff.
The pantry is scheduled to open when Summer B classes begin June 29.
The Gainesville Sun reports the Dean of Students office will run the pantry, which is a university-wide collaboration.
Officials say the pantry will address a need many students face - not being able to afford food. A survey of 1,800 students found that 10 percent of students didn't have enough food to the point that it affected their studies. The survey was conducted by faculty at the UF Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences Department of Family Youth and Community Services,
Students and staff can access the pantry by showing a university ID.
