University of South Florida football player LaDarrius Jackson is being held without bond on charges of sexual battery and false imprisonment after allegedly attacking a female student in a residence hall on the Tampa campus Monday.
According to a USF Police report, Jackson, 22, pushed the victim, who he knew, into a room in Holly Drive Apartments Building A around 2:30 p.m.
The woman says she attempted to prevent that by putting her hands on the walls. Jackson then allegedly sexually battered the victim inside the room. The report said that the victim didn't attempt to leave because she was afraid Jackson was going to physically stop her.
The victim reported the assault to university housing staff, who then contacted university police.
No physical injuries were reported to the police.
Jackson was detained at Tampa International Airport, and formally arrested at the University Police Department office late Monday night. Jackson was reportedly flying home at the end of the semester as opposed to fleeing the area.
Jackson, a junior defensive end from Birmingham, Alabama, has been removed from all football team activities for the time being. He joined USF in 2016, playing in seven games, after transferring from Hinds Community College in Jackson, Miss.
"We are aware of the charges filed against LaDarrius Jackson," USF head coach Charlie Strong said in a statement released by the university. "While we find the allegations troubling, we will continue to gather information and support the judicial process before providing further comment."
In March, former USF football player Hassan Childs was arrested in an apparent road-rage incident in Tampa. Childs was shot three times by the other driver, Jovanni Jimenez, after allegedly pointing a gun at him and his family twice.
Childs, 22, was kicked off the football team after being charged with three counts of aggravated assault and one count of misdemeanor marijuana possession. Jimenez, 26, was not charged. Both men have concealed weapons permits. Childs remains free on bond.
