The University of South Florida will award almost 5,000 degrees during seven commencement ceremonies this weekend, as well as honor Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn and entrepreneur Kate Tiedemann.

There will be four ceremonies in the Yuengling Center on the Tampa campus Friday and Saturday, where 4,243 degrees will be awarded.

There will be two ceremonies Sunday for USF St. Petersburg at the Mahaffey Theatre, where 459 degrees will be awarded, while 242 degrees will be conferred at a ceremony Monday night for USF Sarasota-Manatee at the Bradenton Convention Center.

According to USF officials, the graduates come from 48 U.S. states and 86 countries. Two-hundred-forty-seven student veterans are graduating as well. The youngest graduate is 19 years old, the oldest is 69.

Twenty-eight students across the USF System have been named King O’Neal Scholars, an honor that comes from having a cumulative grade point average of 4.0.

Buckhorn will receive the President’s Fellow Medallion on Saturday afternoon in Tampa. It’s given by USF System President Judy Genshaft’s discretion to what USF calls “very distinguished visitors and highly meritorious individuals.”

Tiedemann, who in 2014 donated $10 million to the USF St. Petersburg College of Business that now bears her name, will receive an honorary doctorate of business administration during the Sunday afternoon ceremony in St. Petersburg.
