Florida State University Board of Trustees will begin searching for another president to replace John Thrasher.

Florida State University will soon begin searching for a new president.

Current President John Thrasher will continue in the position until a replacement takes over.

FSU Board of Trustees Chairman Ed Burr says the board is starting the search early since officials aren’t sure how it could be impacted by COVID-19.

Thrasher - who once served as speaker of the Florida House of Representatives and Chair of Florida's Republican Party - said Friday that he looks forward to spending time with his family.

“I tell people, and I mean this from the bottom of my heart, it’s the best job I’ve ever had and the past six years have been energizing, rewarding, and I couldn’t ask for more," he said.

The FSU Board of Trustees will hold a special meeting in the coming weeks to form a presidential search committee.

Burr said he doesn't plan to name an interim president, and he doesn’t know how long the search will take.
