Cold weather shelters will be open Friday, this weekend

Temperatures are expected to drop into the 30s over the weekend.

Cold weather shelters are opening in the greater Tampa Bay region this weekend as a cold front moves through.

Ahead of temperatures that are expected to drop into the 30s and 40s this weekend, Pinellas, Hillsborough, Pasco and Hernando counties plans to open cold weather shelters this weekend.

The Pinellas shelters are available Friday and Saturday nights to adult men and women in Tarpon Springs, Clearwater, Pinellas Park, and St. Petersburg. They're expected to open at either 6 or 7 each night.

Families with children who need shelter should call Tampa Bay Cares at 2-1-1 for more information.

Tarpon Springs

Hillsborough County

Shelters will be open Friday through Sunday for the homeless and those who live in homes without adequate heat. Availability of motel vouchers will be limited because of a busy event weekend. Both shelters open at 6 p.m. for adults.

Also, Metropolitan Ministries and Tampa Crossroads are supplying a limited number of single-night motel vouchers on a first-come, first-served basis. Pre-registration is required. Individuals and families can call (813) 209-1176. Individuals and couples without children can call (813) 702-0850. Phone lines close at 5 p.m.

Pasco County

Pasco County is coordinating with the Coalition for the Homeless of Pasco County to provide shelters on both sides of the county Saturday and Sunday.

To make arrangements for either Friday or Saturday night, call the Coalition for the Homeless of Pasco County at (727) 842-8605, Extension 6, on Friday until 4 p.m., or Saturday from noon-4 p.m.

Hernando County

Anyone needing shelter should contact Jericho Road Ministries from 4-6 p.m.
